The Cageless Birds are proud to present Overtaken, the long awaited debut album from Molly Kate Skaggs. This album is the second solo project to be released from the Cageless Birds Studio, and is a crafted testimony of the extravagant love of God.
Eleven original compositions establish an altar of remembrance that highlight the album’s core theme: finding belonging in the heart of God. Through soaring piano melodies, sweeping strings and sincere lyrics, Overtaken explores the truth that in all things Perfect Love comes to banish fear and swallow up loneliness. This album is the sound and story of a devoted life that has given into that Love over many years and seasons. It is full of anthems that testify: everything will be overtaken with Light!
From singer-songwriter ballads to corporate worship anthems and intricately composed instrumentals, these tracks are an expression of Molly’s heart and a reflection on the last ten years of her life. This album was born in family and echoes what Molly has given her life to. The song "Anchor" was written in 2013 in collaboration between Molly and twelve 18 Inch Journey students. The title track, "Overtaken", is the fruit of lasting friendship, and was co-written with Melissa Helser.
Overtaken is rich and layered, featuring over a dozen unique instruments that were played and recorded live between North Carolina and Tennessee. The bulk of the album was produced and engineered at the Cageless Birds Studio in Sophia, North Carolina. Additional instrumentation and tracking was performed and captured by close friends and immediate family, including Molly's parents, Ricky & Sharon Skaggs at Skaggs Place Studios in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Jonathan David & Melissa Helser served as executive producers on Overtaken. The album was co-produced by Molly, Joel Case, and Molly's brother, Luke Skaggs, and was mixed and mastered by Dave Wilton at Coalesce Audio in Lafayette, Colorado.
This is only the first album of many to come from Molly Kate Skaggs. Our hope is that as you listen to this music, you too will discover the Belonging for which you were made.
